Loretta Artesia Scarp

Loretta Artesia Scarp, 92, a retired registered nurse, beloved mother and grandmother, died January 24, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mrs. Scarp was born Loretta DiBernardino on October 13, 1932, in Chicago. She and her family moved to Scottsdale in 1967 from Melrose Park, Illinois.

She grew up in the Chicago suburb of Elmwood Park and married James Scarp in 1953, the year she graduated from the nursing program at Chicago's former Ravenswood Hospital. She worked at several places throughout her nursing career, including 29 years at the former Judson School, a boarding college preparatory school in Paradise Valley, Arizona. She retired when Judson closed in 2000. She was devoted to family, friends and community.

She is survived by sons, Mark, and Joseph Scarpignato and daughter-in-law Toni Van Remoortere; grandsons Rocko Scarpignato and Cash Scarpignato; and former husband James.

After words of remembrance at 9:45 a.m., funeral Mass will be 10 a.m.s Thursday, February 6, 2025, at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix.
